cupcakes & class

I finally finished this cupcake with a huge cherry on top. It's made of glue and glitter. I put glue in a spiral on some freezer paper and sprinkled it with pinkish glitter. Once it's dry it peels off the paper. Then when I put the wax on, it toned it down.

I am teaching this class tonight at the Paper Crown. So I am off to bake real cupcakes to take for my class. I got a new car yesterday (it came in last night) and I am dying to get out and explore it! But I have to get my class stuff together first. More on that later........

vine-o-rama!

I misplaced my morning glory seeds from last year and didn't plant any this year.....it didn't matter. They grew anyway. This morning's glory.....twins

tomorrow's glories

they are everywhere!

forget about the shovel...get another one
Since the weather has cooled down a bit I needed to transplant a honeysuckle plant and couldn't find the shovel. Guess I waited too long to put it away.

rain!

I did a rain dance last night....seriously I did. And it worked. We had a good rain last night and it is still sprinkling. After a week of triple digit heat and more to come this week...rain is a welcome sight.
A wet view from the front porch.

Fun stuff...while cleaning the studio I came across my box of clay and had to stop and play. So I made these guys. DH really likes them.

photo of the week

I love the blue background on this picture. I actually took this picture while being bombarded with dough balls. It's in front of Chevy's restaurant in Annapolis. The dough balls? They give the kids some crayons in a ball of dough and one of our family traditions is to have a battle in the parking lot....yep, I refuse to grow up.
Happy Monday....Friday is only four more days.

quilt day

I am late today....it's almost tomorrow. I've had a two and a half day headache...sinuses ugh!
Anyway, I made it to the quilt guild meeting this morning and our speaker was a sweet little 81 year old lady...a member of our guild. And she gave a lecture on Baltimore Bride quilts. She made the above quilt and it has over 1000 grapes on it. And it is all hand pieced and hand quilted.

Since I am a Baltimore girl I had to show some of the blocks from the various quilts.

this one has ruching...did I spell that correctly?

I love how these look but I don't have the patience for all that applique.
I will stick to my art quilts for now...later? who knows?...maybe

wednesday update

Happy Wednesday

Nothing new today. I cooked most of yesterday...in the kitchen that is and I baked a few clay items. But it did get up to 101 in Mustang.
Not much cooler today but I am venturing out and having lunch with a friend. And then back to you know where and try to finish up. The cats broke my stained glass. I don't think I can fix it but it's still pretty.

progress.....

That's right! You are seeing organization in my studio...and I love it. If I can just keep it that way.
I like to keep lots of angels tucked here and there.
Today I am working on a table area to make my doll's for the holidays. I make them assembly line style, so I can have everything all lined up and ready to go.
It's been in the upper 90's here and teetering on the brink of 100 degrees. Way too hot for me so I stay in my cool studio....about 72 degrees.
Have a great Tuesday....Oh, and my second batch of baby birds have taken flight today. Yay! Now I can clean off the porch...no wait ...it's too hot.....

photo monday

I know-I know.....I hate spiders and you think I'm crazy for even taking this picture. But I just thought it was perfectly centered on this small hydrangea. Besides, it's more like a daddy longlegs than a scary spider. So that is my photo of the week for this week.
I spent another five hours or so cleaning out the studio yesterday and I am going back in today. I have found so many things that I had forgotten I had and I can't wait to use them...if I don't lose them after putting them away. Did I tell you that my studio is almost 600 square feet? Another reason it is taking me so long.
Happy Monday!

playin'

Another something covered with napkins today. It's this box that had Christmas motif's on it. After Christmas is the best time to buy. They practically give the stuff away. Here is my tip of the day....If you are covering something with tissue paper or napkins and (because they are transparent) the word or design that you are trying to get rid of (ie. holiday designs) keeps coming thru. Take a regular piece of paper with text or picture and put that over the design and when that dries then put your napkin on top. Layer as much as you want. On the above box I used a bingo card. I think it adds interest to the piece.

Just playing around with Photo Impact. I put this painting in and changed the colors. She's pretty wild.
Going out for Mexican food tonight...yum!

more cleaning aRt

I didn't do much with the studio yesterday. I took a break and went shopping. I got some new embroidery motif's for my sewing machine. Now I want to play with them. I got a new alphabet a year ago and could never get it to download to my USB. Sweet Charity at the Stitching Post did it for me yesterday. YAY! I can't wait to use it now.

A couple more things I accomplished while cleaning this week. I covered the above tin with tissue paper and napkins. I bought a bunch of tins and stuff at JoAnne's after Christmas sale at 90% off. Now anyone who knows me knows I cannot resist 90% off!

This is covered with just napkins.
Happy ArTfuL weekend!!

over the hump thursday

Still cleaning and you ask what takes me so long to get the studio straightened out? Well, I can't stay focused being around all those yummy art supplies so I cheat and play a little whilst cleaning up. So I thought I'd better show some of those things.....

I had this paper mache' business card holder and I covered it with napkins. Then I thought that these new crayons would look better in it than business cards....for now.

And I cranked out some new cards.
Oh, and there is more........tomorrow.

new addition

Some of my friends have commented that my morning glory tat needed a hummingbird. (The morning glory is my grandsons' birth flower so it is to honor them.) But I did it. Here it is...and once again, no black outlines. I had to fight for the "no black" lines....no tattoo artist wants to omit the black outline and mine didn't want to either but she was pleased with the results as was I. It's a much softer look and I get tons of compliments and I think thats why.

Have to go....still working on the studio....that light at the end is getting brighter!

tuesday and still going

Yep, after six and a half more hours in the studio cleaning out stuff and rearranging I am still going at it. I do see the light at the end of the tunnel tho. Remember me telling that I never throw anything away? Well, to prove it to you...I found this ad for the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1965!

I soooo loved the Beatles! I have other Beatle stuff too. I had it all.

I am off to the post office....special art mail going out today.

Hope you have an artful Tuesday!

happy monday

Since I spend most of my Monday recuperating from whatever I did over the weekend, I am going to make Monday's on my blog...photo of the week day. I will post a photo of whatever I deem to be photo of the week.

Saturday I was washing bed linens and had the washer full of hot water, bleach and the linens. And the washer just stopped! And it wouldn't drain. I tried several times to start it over but it still would not drain. So I left it to take a shower and when I returned I found this funny site of the washing machine with DH's head sticking out of it. I thought it was funny. That's it my photo of the week, but the others will be artsy. Just wanted to share.
Have a great week....make some art...I'm STILL cleaning the studio....but throwing in some art here and there.

Thank you Anni!

I'm still here....

Today was DH's company picnic, so I ventured out into the massive heat.....and nearly melted. I found some shade and the wind was blowing as always. It never stops here. So anyway, I am completely drained and will have to recharge myself tonight. I want to get the studio finished this weekend!

So, this weekend...get out your crayons, (you know you have some) get in touch with your inner child and COLOR!!!
Have a great weekend!

new day....old art

Very, very old art! I found this while cleaning out the studio. It's one of my first pen and ink pieces and I believe I was 15 or 16 when I made it....back in the late 60's. It was in very bad shape and I scanned it before throwing it away. Now I think....what was I thinking? I never throw anything away....just ask DH. I should have played with it and incorporated it into some of my collages.....oh well.
Day number ??? still cleaning (didn't clean yesterday) I went out and bought storage stuff at Big Lots. Back to the grind today and preparing for my class tomorrow....putting kits together and baking cupcakes...yum!

more cupcake loven

As I was cleaning out the studio, I found a tube of that modeling goo and thought I would build a cupcake. It's not finished but I said I would show and tell...so I'm showin' & tellin'. As I clean, I run back and forth to add the background....but I think all it needs now is a big ole cherry on the top.
So, any suggestions? More background? Cherry? It's very subdued so the cherry can't be very bright. And it should be three dimentional...so I have to figure out what to use for the cherry.
I have to stop now...looking at it is making me hungry....have a great day!

new bagz

Just showing a bag here because I did more cleaning than art yesterday so the piece I started is not finished yet. Still cleaning...one thing leads to another....but still creating too.

happy monday!

studio sunday

I should say it's cleaning the studio Sunday. I started a few days ago and I am ready to get it done. Doing some rearranging.....and some art on the side as I work. Will show something tomorrow.
Yesterday was great! The movie was great...we saw Kit Kittridge An American Girl. I warned DH....after we arrived...that there will be lots of little girls and their dolls. And then he was wondering, what kind of movie did you bring me to? Well, he loved it and I told him on the way out...just don't tell your macho friends.

..... enjoy the rest of your weekend.....

happy day

Today is our "first date" anniversary! 27 years ago, we went on our first date and the rest is history. I woke up this morning to find these beautiful pink roses on my breakfast table. To celebrate today we are going to dinner and a movie......and the quilt store!

Art will wait until tomorrow....but you go ahead and create some.

Happy 4th!

Wishing everyone stateside a Happy 4th of July. Be safe and don't eat too many hot dogs.

I would love to be here today. My favorite beach.
I visit my favorite beach's quite often by going here.

I was there a couple weeks ago and took this picture.

spinning the wheel of......crayons

Wanted to share this find with you all. These are Disney crayons, found at Michael's in the dollar bin. They aren't the best quality but I love the colors! They are different and weird colors....guess that's why I like them. But I am not coloring with them. I want to use the wrappers in collage and then melt the crayons into crayon cupcakes a'la Tracy Bautista. I'll let you know how that works out.

Found some time yesterday to play in Photo Impact. I took the photo at my daughter's house while on vacation. DH is home for four days...don't know how much art will get produced.

artful wednesday

After a bad day yesterday, I am feeling much better today. After cleaning some floors and washing bedding and rugs...I am headed to the studio for some healing art therapy......

And DH just called and said he is taking me out to dinner tonight. He was worried about me yesterday because I am prone to depression. Sweet guy! And I plan on doing some sewing. If I don't sew for a while I get with drawl symtoms, it's crazy!
Have a great Wednesday!
