friday buzz
Yesterday was my quilt guild meeting. I switched to the night meeting so I could attend with my friend, Jan. This quilt caught my eye. I love all the directions it takes you to. No...I don't do traditional.

I found him!
Ok, so I have been blogging for a year now and I keep reading about these muses that other artist's have. And how they are always taking control and making them do other things. And I kept thinking where is my muse? Do I even have one? I didn't think that I did have one....until yesterday.
When I was trying to tackle the messy art table....he took control and had me make some art instead. It's been happening for quite a while. I just thought there was something wrong with me.
My muse is a guy. His name is ART. And I think he looks a lot like the guy on this stamp because he sure had me using it a lot. It's Ok that he is a guy...right? I mean it is the 21st century and all. But I think he needs a nickname. Calling him art could be confusing at times.

what's artful today?
Yep, I will be cleaning this up today. Sharon thought she had a mess on her desk. Not to one-up her or anything BUT she's got nothing on this mess. But it is an artful mess, so it shows signs that I have been very busy...right? But the rag bagz orders are rolling in and I must get crack-a-lackin on those.

thanks!
Yay for Friday!
I know that other blogs inspire me and it's nice to know that I also inspire others. So a big heartfelt THANK YOU!!
I was at the store the other day and gave the cashier this bill to pay for my stuff and being a fifty dollar bill she has to check it to see if it's real. She holds it up and starts laughing. Oh nuts! I thought...is it funny money I asked? Then she said you may want to keep this and showed it to me. Ha! Just had to share.....another day in my life,

and another thing....
Another great thing about the blogging world is all the wonderful people I have come to know.
Being fairly new here in Oklahoma I don't know a lot of people and I tend to get homesick...a lot!So I sit at my computer and reach out to other artists and it's like another universe. I could go on and on but you get the picture. It's a huge help to me. And I have a renewed relationship with my nephew, Marc. He is a blogger as well. He's a runner not an artist. If you click on the leg lamp on my sidebar you will go to his blog. He is an excellent writer.
The long awaited Art Doll Quarterly with our "Love Squared" doll and article by Monica Magness. I went to her blog the other day and there was a photo of a stack of letters and a note on a tag on top of it all...from me.

You can click on the Pink Artist button on the side and go there from here. There is still time to send in your donation to Susan G. Komen and get your entries in to win this amazing doll. She is three feet tall! And all for a good cause.
Oh and I saw my square. It's under her left elbow, the second row down.

todays art
The green one is grunge board the other is a napkin.
Whenever DH travels on business I make him a card and stash it somewhere in his luggage. This envelope traveled to Nebraska.
Don't forget to leave a comment this week to be entered into the drawing for the art book.
Another comment I would like to mention on my one year blog anniversary is how I became a blogger. I have to thank Sharon Tomlinson for that. I was planning to go to the Quilt Festival in Chicago a few years back and they were having a booth where you can send in 6 ATC's (artist trading cards) and when you go to the show you could pick 6 (or however many you sent in) ATC's in return. So I mailed mine in and planned to attend the show. Well, I didn't get to go to Chicago and just forgot about the art cards I mailed in.
Little did I know that the ATC's were sent to the Quilt show in Houston....enter Sharon. She went to the Houston show and traded for one of my little piece's of art. My info being on the back of the card she contacted me and asked my permission to publish my/her ATC on her blog. Of course!....What's a blog?
Then the addiction started. I went to her blog. Then I looked at some of her favorites and that led to other's favorites and so on.
Eventually I got up my nerve and one year and one day ago I started my pink crayon studio blog.
Thanks Sharon!!!

a few more...
A few more pages of my latest art book made from newspaper that I am giving away next week.
If you turn this page in the light you can see copper flowers.
This photo doesn't do this page any justice.
The butterfly is embossed in gold and the background has a glittery floral tissue peeking thru.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
I am looking forward to dining at my favorite Mexican restaurant tonight. But first I have at least a million things to get done in the studio. I never did finish getting it all straightened out.

friday stuff
Here is another page from my give away art book for next week. I am having so much fun with these little books.
This is what I won last week. An ATC from Kelley. But it wasn't a random drawing. I won it for something that I wrote. She wanted to know new ways of discovering connections to people, places and idea's. I wrote mine about connecting with people on the internet and I will write more about that next week on my 1 year anniversary of blogging.

pink wink
Today I am sending off some pink socks to Michelle Ward. They are for nurses and you can check it out here.
I've got a full blown case of the newspaper art bug! I started another little art book yesterday and here is a sneak page. I will be giving this one away next week for my one year blogaversary.
Be sure to check back and leave me a comment and be entered into the drawing. I will take the names from the whole week.

newspaper....repurposed
This is the new art book I made the other day. The front and back are book board from 7 Gypsies. You can buy them plain and put your own holes in them where you want them to be. The bluish part with the face is copper that used to be a roof on a bird feeder. DH threw it in the trash when the wooden part of the feeder rotted. What! Are you crazy?! I am always digging my "stuff" out of the trash that he throws away. In 27 years of togetherness that is my biggest beef with him. Anyway....he thinks I am nuts and just shakes his head. Then I come back with my art and say SEE?! See what I did with your trash.
This is the back page....I had to have a tissue paper/napkin page. I found some good floral tissue at Dollar Tree last week.(It made my day)

The squiggly's are Elmer's glue put down on wax paper and sprinkled with glitter. When it dries it's clear and pops right off. They are held in with a sheet of tulle. The "sister's" are rubber stamped.
The bee's are stamped and the leaves just float around.
This is one of my favorite stamps. Tag's on the opposite page.
OK, the pages are all made from newspaper. I learned this technique from Donna Downey's blog. It's so much fun. You tear your pages so you get nice torn edges (texture) and then just glue about 10 pages together with glue sticks...yep! gluesticks! I use the bigger ones you can get at Big Lots...3 for 88 cents.
Next I put gesso on them and then paint. You don't have to be perfect. You can let some of the text show through.
Then get out the old sewing machine and stitch them around the edges.
And let the fun begin. This is where my imagination goes wild.
I made my pages 8X10 but before I sewed them I ended up tearing them down to 6X6 for this little book. It's for my class to see that you can get the board book and break it down by using the boards for front and back and fill the center with other goodies...you know ...get more mileage out of it.
Hint: To tear uniform sized pages I used a piece of plastic that was the size I wanted...or thought I wanted at the time. When I went to the smaller size I simply used the board book to teat the pages. Square quilt rulers work beautifly!
