tues-news

Yesterday was a great mail day for me....a check from the dentist instead of a bill... AND a signed photo from Kat Von D!

If you remember back on March 8th I had wished her a happy B-Day along with my daughter, Brandy. Well, I had also made her a special birthday card and it looks like she really liked it...so cool! She is the best!

I took this photo last night as the storm was rolling in. Someone else got the same shot and they showed it on TV on Rick's weather last night. I never think to send my pic's in....duh!

...and then it quickly turned into this. It was a nice storm and we enjoyed it. I know....you think we are on the crazy side. We both come from a family of storm lovers...in fact DH missed his calling as a weather person. And yes, we have been called the Addams family.
Any way...a nice storm is when you can enjoy the rain and hail, thunder and lightning and not lose power.
...have a great day!

back again....

I took a little trip back to the East coast to visit my family. It was fun to catch up and see everyone (everyone that I did not see...I will see you later this summer).

...my niece and I took a trek to the beach and this was the view from our room....sigh.

This is what I came back home to... a snowy day. My violets are now in full bloom plus a little of the white stuff.

My big find was this pink crayon pen!
I am having serious art and sewing withdrawal symptoms. I spent yesterday's studio Sunday finishing up a challenge project. Now I am ready for some new projects.

And I have to wish Ashley Force Hood a huge CONGRATS! for winning yesterday's race. After she beat my guy Ron Capps, I had to root for her. Her Dad, the legendary John Force not only signed my NHRA book but added a special touch....his greasy fingerprints!
Have a marvelous Monday!!

a short break...

I forgot to mention earlier today that I will be taking a short blogger break and will return on the 27th. See you then....

green day

Not the band....Happy Saint Patricks Day! I have some Irish roots so I am wearing green today.

...thought I'd post something green,too....It's the back of my latest junk journal.

...and a couple more quilts from the show. This one takes me back to childhood days for some reason. I think it reminds me of a puzzle I once had.

...this one took best of show....some sort of crazy sunflowers...

...another favorite...

...a new bag for my beach loving friend...crabs of course!

...the inside...

...a little mail art...
....hope you're having a green day!

Monday...monday

Not so good to be....Had an appointment at the periodontist to see about having some tooth implants done. After hearing about having to have some bone added, a gum graft and sinus lift I practically ran out of there screaming! Not to mention it was going to cost almost $4000.00 more than I was quoted.

On a good note, I went to Dallas on Friday to a quilt show and I will show some of my favorites here. Above is a quilt made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics...I think I have them all. Just need the time to put them together. Love his stuff.

This one blew me away. I put my fingers in there to show how small these pieces are. Don't look at my unmanicured nails but do notice the sweet ribbon roses.

...another masterpiece...

...and this one just made me feel happy...maybe it's the pinks.
...see you tomorrow....

little boxes

I like the song "Little Boxes" but these are the new recipe type boxes at Michael's in the dollar bins. I really don't work at Mike's but I used to be a floral designer there...years ago. I had to quit because my kidneys were failing and the rule was that I couldn't sit down and my body said I couldn't stand up for eight hours a day.

This is how I decorated last years boxes...collaged with tissue paper and a little paint here and there.

This time I just slapped on a bit of gesso to cover the design and went over it with Adirondack Color Wash and a sponge applicator. Piece of cake!

For a grunge look. Then used the good ole cropadile to add the label. Now I am finished promoting Michael's.

...have a messy art day!

no trash....

I finished my Junque Journal sample for the class in April. I was disappointed because I had to remove a good ten pages....I got carried away. It's too much fun!

...that's my new motto...

...allsorts...

For the cover I used a catalog by Patience Brewster....I love her art work! I used some ink and paint and added the rose paper napkins.

....another fun page...
Before you throw away your next bit of trash, take a second look and think about it. Start a stash of odds and ends and on the next dreary, rainy or blah day...get it out and play. You will be surprised.

...dream BIG!...

skull art

They have a new line at Michael's and you can get little crown shapes and hearts along with a few other shapes...surfboards too I think. Anyway I got this skull box and covered it with black and white text and used a paper napkin for shading of sorts. I covered the little box in pattern paper. It's made of some type of hard board, I don't know what to call it but they are ready to decorate.

...side view...
Did I tell you that Michaels is now carrying a line of Tim Holtz goodies? I saw them this week and I have to say it made my day. A friend told me last night that it will just be select stores, but we have several in the area and I found one. FYI locals.... Memorial road store.
Hope y'all have a rootin tootin Tuesday.

auto artz

Car lovin' is more like it....

We went to the car show over the weekend to check out the new Camaro (above) everyone in the place was gathered around it. It was sweeet! But not so comfy and like our old Camaro it was low to the ground and not so great for getting in and out of.....Sooooo

...we also checked out the new Challenger. Soft and comfy seats and larger. It felt like little arms coming out and hugging you. I fell in love with it. So after lunch we decided to go and test drive one. Big mistake....DH and I never come out of a dealership and not purchase a new car. So why should Saturday be any different?

Here is my new baby!

I can't believe it. It's a six speed on the floor and has a ton of horsepower. I squeeled the wheels today and I wasn't even trying. This could be trouble for me.
OK now back to the studio...new art tomorrow.

3 more

Three more pages from the junk chronicles....I am having a blast turning all this stuff into art. I caught DH throwing away my numbered ticket from the pharmacy. It's not trash ....it's ephemera! He gave me that look and put the ticket down. Poor guy. But that's life with an artist.

...nick...my muse

...a pastel page with Sharon's moo card...

...this is a combo of a take out menu and a Hallmark card and a birthday card where I replaced the head with um...myself...sort of. Anyway I think it's funny. The crayon hat is a Dutch Boy paint sample.
Ok, off to do my Friday stuff. Hope you have a great weekend and take some time to make some art. Try using your junk mail.

a few new pages

Just thought I would show a few more pages of the junk journal....

...my favorite cherubs having a good time....

...another page of the mannequin catalog...I just removed the body

...an altered bingo card...

...the substrate for this page is a book cover from a Tim Holtz item. Then I threw a seed packet in the background....I think I told you I never throw anything away (I have had that for years...I just like the way it looks. And in the little window...a photo of moi.
I am tired of doctors...doctor last week, doctor yesterday, cat scan tomorrow and can you believe it? More doctors next week.
It's going to be hot today. It is only 11:51 am and it's a balmy 73. Supposed to be in the 80's. I had the AC on in the car yesterday.
Stay cool!

b-day cards

I have been making my March birthday cards and I can show one of them here today. The others have just been mailed out and will have to wait a bit.

here is a close up shot...the card is pretty funky
...can you tell I am into tags right now?

....thats all for today from your messy art girl...
