Meet Gabe & Adam

Here are two of my new altered men. Gabe has wings and Adam has ribs.

I was in the Dollar Tree and saw these anatomical dolls, with the guts and all inside and thought..hmmmm...what can I do with these? Then I told myself, no, I have enough to do and I don't need to buy anything else and I walked away. THEN, As I was browsing thru blogs, I saw where someone was teaching a class using these very same dolls. So I had to give it a try.

Mine aren't as fancy as the ones advertised for the class but they are my interpretation.

Have a great and safe holiday weekend.

bad news day

Not terribly bad news. I just got my first rejection letter. I applied for an annual, local show that showcases women's art, ect. They wanted edgy, funky and different things and I guess I wasn't funky enough. It's OK. I got my entry in a week before the due date and they get hundreds of entries and only select around forty. So they said to try again next year.

Now, about those altered men I promised for today. They said they weren't ready (or altered enough) to display themselves today. So I said alright you can do it tomorrow.

So today I will tell you why some fabric stores call me the selvage queen. I save all the selvages (for you non sewers out there - the selvage is the edge of the fabric with the writing on it. Usually the company name and name of the fabric line). And some of them are pretty cool.

Then I sew them onto used dryer sheets and make blocks. From there I make little bags like the one in the picture. And purses and I made a vest, which always gets comments when I wear it to a quilt show.

a little Q & A

My friend Jan asked me what I do with the beads that I have been making. Besides the obvious, I like to put them on my journals and the little notepads that I make. I also put them on handmade cards and photo collages.

Today was spaghetti day. I make my sauce from scratch (my Mom's recipe) and cook it all day.

It makes the house smell wonderful.

Tomorrow....altered men!

bowling day

Well, today being bowling day not a lot of art gets done considering we bowl until around noon, then do lunch for an hour or so. So I thought it was appropriate to show off my new bowling shoes. You may think, well, that's weird. Has she lost it? Nope! I painted my shoes. They were a boring shade of white and sort of just looked like everyone else's. I couldn't have that.

I painted my current pair pink with flowers, so I thought purple would look good for the new ones.

More tomorrow.....

"little boxes"

These aren't really little boxes, I just like the song"Little Boxes." I got a steal on these. They were half price and I can't resist anything half price. I always need containers for my "STUFF."

I have way too much stuff according to my DH. He refers to it by a different name but we won't go there.

I got the plain brown boxes, not to be confused with plain brown wrappers..... got out my stamps and distressing inks and went to town on them. I like the way they turned out. They don't look all that great on the photo but if you click on it, it will enlarge and then you can see the detail more clearly.

Oklahoma sunset

No art today. I actually finished a piece but ran out of light to take a good photo.
I had a quilt guild meeting this morning and made it home in time to cook dinner.
So I will leave you with a beautiful Oklahoma sunset.

Old Art

No new art to show today. I am working on a few projects but nothing to show yet.

So I decided to dig out something old. Last year a favorite quilt shop of mine had an art bra contest to benefit breast cancer. So here is my entry.

I dedicated my art bra to my Aunt Claire, who succumbed to the dreaded disease.

Just a reminder, Ladies, get your mammograms.

Beads

Well, I pushed a wrong button and published my "Good Morning" and nothing else. Bear with me - I am no computer wiz, but promise to get better with time.

Today I will be making some paper beads. They are pretty cool. When they are finished they look like glass and metal.

The instructions for them is in the July/August issue of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. They made theirs chunky, but I make mine skinnier using a less messy technique. Instead of using a gel medium I use my Xyron 150 sticker maker. The strips of paper are one inch wide and if you want them smaller you can cut them in half.

Warning: They are addictive (like chips) you can't make just one.

Good Morning

Day two on my new blog welcomes all with a morning glory from my garden.

First Time

My first entry on my blog. I am just trying to set this thing up, it's 10:29 PM on a Sunday night and I haven't got a clue what I am doing.
I must be doing something right, I downloaded this photo of a bag I made for my friend Patti.
I am going to quit while I'm ahead.
More to follow.....
