Lola's art

As promised...here are a few of Lola Jenkin's quilted portraits.

this one is of one of our guild members....

fragmented

I am not a dog person but I really love this one...

...sorry about the quality of photo's. It was night and I didn't use my flash.

...but you get the picture...fabulous art!

she also had an array of postcard size art...thanks Lola for sharing with us!
Now don't you feel like getting out your stash and creating a face in fabric? I do. I started sketching some faces then I decided to make a page of eyes and a page of mouths and face shapes. Now I will mix and match them and see what I get.
Sounds like a fun weekend project to me....stay tuned. Oh, and I have a neat trick to show next week.

finally friday

Yay! It's Friday....what a week. Anyway the quilt meeting was great last night with Lola Jenkins. I was going to post some of her work today but it's still in my camera.....so tomorrow I promise to do that.

This is a little sewn portrait I made into a card for Lola. I would like to make a whole quilt of little faces. Speaking of little faces I bought a pillow made by Sandy Mastroni and it is sooo adorable and I will post a photo of that too.

While cleaning up the studio I found a little form and covered it with some pattern paper. Then I decided it needed a little color and I dyed some of the paper pink and made her a belt and matching rose. This is why it takes me so doggone long to clean up! I find things to do and I have to do them right then and there. Oh well....that's how I roll.

artful weekend to all!

quick check in

Quickly checking in before heading back to the studio to finish cleaning up...I am halfway there.

...another couple pages...

When I ordered my mannequin head they sent me a catalog of full body manne's and I was throwing it away....and I had a "wait a minute" moment. So these are now incorporated into the journal. DH didn't like this one, but I have a funny one that I will post tomorrow.

Off to the PO to pick up a certified letter....yuk! Last time I got one my mortgage company forgot to pay the taxes. I think I know what this is....I was recently a victim of credit card fraud.
On the happier side I am looking forward to Lola Jenkin's lecture at the quilt guild meeting tonight.

late

I am late posting today...I have a beef. Not the eating kind. I had a doctor appointment that was originally at 11:00 am. They called me yesterday and said to be there at 10:45 instead. So I get there and the place is jammed full (and with sick people) I go in the morning for the well people appoinment. I only needed a referral!!
Other people came in well after I arrived and went in to see the doctor. So after waiting an HOUR I was putting on my coat and leaving....and they called my name. I won't tell you what my blood pressure was. And I am an easy going person.
On the bright side I read the new issue of Where Women Create whilst waiting.

This is another page from the junk journal. I kept this postcard (an ad for a store) because I liked the fruit stamp (upper right hand corner) I bought these cute little German books many years ago when we lived in Germany. I have no idea what they say or what they are about but the illustrations are funny and cute. Then I added the paper napkin flowers.

I gussied up an old Messiah concert program from my singing days. I think it was from 2003.
I never throw anything away and it really bugs my DH. But look now it is coming in handy.

And some of you will recognize this Catherine Moore design. Her stamps come on these printed cardstock pages. I just added some green ink and the same paper flowers as above.
Now I must tackle the studio. Men will be up there on Friday to get into the attic and fix my heater. Oh Lord, help me get it presentable!
Hope your day is going well.

a new challenge

Before I forget...again, Emily Franz is hosting a rag doll challenge to celebrate the start of Spring. I am joining in on the fun...why don't you? She is providing the patterns and you can get all the info here.
I spent my weekend rearranging and cleaning the studio and in between I work a little on the junque journal sample.

This is a page in progress.

....and this is a finished page that I am pleased with.

I used one of Tim Holtz connector thingies to attach the tag inside the pocket. Tim makes the best stuff....love him.

Hope your Monday is happy.

I couldn't think of a title for this post so I cheated and just put my number down....it happens.

Last week when the tornadoes were whirling...guess what I took to the shelter with me? That's right ....the little bear in the above photo. His name is Dee and I have had him for 51 years. He is my first Stieff bear and my favorite. My Mom thought long and hard before she bought him for me because he was a whole $1.50 and back in the fifties, that was a lot of money. You could buy little bears at the 5&10 for a nickle. They were made of sawdust and I still have one of those, too. This little cutie is made with German mohair and has been played with and toted around for many hours and he still looks good.
Now if you had any doubts....you think this woman is a little wacky. OK, I admit it.

Here are a couple pages from my junque journal sample for the class I will be teaching in April at the Paper Crown.

I am using mostly junk mail for the pages and embellishing with my favorite bits of art. It is so much fun and is really lightening my load of trash.
I am doing my spring cleaning of my studio and finding all kinds of fun stuff I forgot I had so I keep adding on to this daily.
I love that stamp of the hummer wearing a dress. It's from Catherine Moore's new line Character Constructions and I believe it is the new Birds and Bee's line.

Do something artfully fun this weekend!

4 ever

As you know, yesterday was our four year kidney anniversary. So today I can show the card I made for my sweet husband. I should call him SH instead of DH but then no one would know what the heck I was talking about. Besides, I think SH stands for something else....but then so can DH.....enough!

The inside has a pink music score with the words true love and it's torn into a kidney shape. It has my personal message written all the way around it.

I delivered a new bag yesterday for my friend Jan's birthday. She is a basket collector so I used a basket theme.

I used both her first and last name initials. The inside is lined with a basket print with a pocket made with a sweet print with baskets of flowers on it. It is a tote rather than a purse as she requested. She loved it.

Have a colorful day!

tuesday tidbits

I received this beautiful thank you card from Michelle Ward last week. I know she sent out many of these cards to all who participated in her "pink wink" project. She is such a sweetheart!

And speaking of pink....I made this little birthday card for a friend.

...and a handmade V-day card for DH.
Hope your heart day was special....mine was but today is even more special. It's my four year anniversary of my kidney transplant. Four years ago today they removed a kidney from my wonderful husband and put it in me. He saved my life!!! How do you repay someone for that?
Well, today it's by eating at a cajun restaurant. He was a 100% match and the odds of that are one in a million. I truly believe in things that are meant to be.

happy heart day

Happy Valentine's Day to all!
Since I don't post on weekends I am sending love wishes today. Hope your day is sweet!

"sweet"
It is also Friday the 13th.....so I am posting my sweet black kitty here for my photo of the day.

When the whole tornado thing came up with all the warnings, ect. I parked myself in front of the tv in the living room (my studio is upstairs) I put a piece of plywood on the floor so I could get some painting done. When I went to pick it up last night I saw this rose. It was unintentional but I like it. I call it surprise art.

kisses!

older art

I don't have any "new" art to show so I thought I would show one of my city scapes from Decenber that was made for a gift.

This one was made for my daughter and is personalized with family names, ect. She loved it.

"what?"
My photo and word for today. I was trying to get to a certain website and this popped up. Have you ever?!

Well, I'd best get back to my list of reasons I have no new art to show.
1. working on a huge collage
2. creating a new banner for the blog
3. still making valentines
4. getting new class samples made
5. the usual everyday junk to get done...yawn.

....don't forget to think pink!

Okay in OK

I am still here. Happy Tuesday didn't end up that way. What a day! It started out rather nicely, another no coat morning. But all of that changed in a blink of an eye.

This is what I did for the rest of the day. Warnings on TV, sirens blaring, in and out of my safe place with the cats.

I kept an eye on these two clouds approching each other from opposite sides. They say that is when they start to swirl ( I don't like the word rotation since moving here) And then the darn thing drops out of the sky.

We got away with only marble size hail. Target, Hobby Lobby and Chuckie Cheese were hit hard.
Then later after dark a huge tornado hit down south of us and so far 15 people were killed.

On a brighter note I got my Valentine's in the mail. This was my favorite. Front above and back below.

Have a safe and artful Wednesday

happy tuesday

"happy"

Or is it yummy? They were both! Made by my God Daughter last Christmas. Thought we could use some "happy" to get through the week.
I am lunching with the girls today at Santa Fe....having some steak for lunch and then have a light dinner.
My prediction for the first to go on Dancing with the Stars....SteveO! How the heck did they pick him? We'll see I guess. Maybe he will surprise us....but I am not holding my breath. I just can't see it.
Anyway tonight is Idol. Geez, I must be hooked on all this reality stuff.

monday update

Here is today's photo. The word to go with? Ummm....mean? or funny? You be the judge.

I spent my studio sunday making my valentine cards. Here are a few samples. The heart above was repurposed from another card that I didn't care for. I tore the heart shape then tore it in half and then sewed it back together down the middle. It looks prettier in person.

This is the inside pocket with a slide out with a place to insert a gift card.

I made several of these more boyish cards for the grand kids and nephew. Using my stash of paint sample chips.
It was one of those good art days where the ideas keep coming and changing.

Have a great week!
