sewing the edges

Been sewing a bit and using my selvages.
Don't know why I am so fascinated with them....
...but I tend to be.

Anyway...I stitched up a bunch of them in this manner, intending them to be on the back of a challenge quilt. But they turned out to be the perfect size for placemats. Now I can't decide.

Do I really want them to be hidden on the back of something?

Not really.

I think I will do both.

Lord knows I have enough to do both.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

stripping..art style

I bought a large print cookbook at a second hand book store.
On Sunday I went thru it and inked up some pages....
...a lot of them.
Used my alcohol inks.

fun stuff

This one reminded me of when I was a kid and we used to color Easter eggs. The coloring kit came with squares of a tissue like paper with designs like this and you would wrap the paper around the egg and then apply a damp paer towel over it and the design would come off onto the egg.

OK...so then I plopped in front of the tv and ripped the pages into strips.

I covered this can with some of the colored strips and placed the rest of them inside.

It's a colorful mess!
I created a few other things and will show them later this week.

random friday

YAY!
Good news!
The funk is gone!

I feel normal again!

I have energy...

...I exercised.

I feel like painting....

...and sewing...

and designing...

BUT

I have to go to the bank and run errands, ect.
...But I feel good.

I will be making some sort of creative art this weekend!

Happy Friday and creative weekend wishes!

wednesday check in

Nothing much new...
...I am still here...
...still feeling funky.
The sun is not helping...
and neither did buying some new fabric.

Just have to wait it out I guess.

Nature's stencil on my wall.
I was walking down the hall and whoa!

Just the sun shining thru my front door.

Happy Wednesday!

Spring has sprung!

OK... it's officially spring now so no more talk of the S word.
Most of it has melted and with high sixty temps today and tomorrow....
I say good riddance!

I did do some creative things this weekend but no photo's.

I am having to force myself.
Ever since I had that funk last week...energy has been low...
....and my mood too.

Going out today and get some of that sun...it has to help.
I want my old self back.

This is my challenge doll that was published in Art Doll Quarterly a few years back.
Thought she represents a change in seasons.

So here are my geraniums....
...they are residing in the garage until it's safe to come out.

I kinda like them in the windows.

Wishing you a wonderful week of spring!

random friday

Spring like things are finally happening....
....buds are popping out all over...
...grasses are greening up.

Yesterday was nice....I was able to open some windows and the cats and I enjoyed some much needed fresh air in the house.

Today is supposed to reach nearly 70 degrees.
DH is home sick with the same crud I had....have? Still not well.

Tomorrow's weather forecast?

SNOW!!!
and lots of it!

Up to 10 inches!
Was going to work in the yard today....not!
Well, I guess that is Spring for you...it is still winter.

No matter what...I am going to enjoy today.

Enjoy your weekend!

something green

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
During the Christmas holidays I moved the dining room table into the kitchen to make room for a tree in front of the big window in the dining room. I put the round kitchen table in the studio to refinish the badly worn top.
But now I really love the square table in the kitchen. What the heck! It's staying.
So now I am into table runners. Thought I would make one for each season and holiday.
They are fairly quick and easy to make and I can enjoy looking at my favorite fabric's.
So I have pieced together this table runner.
Lots of pretty flowers....
....and lots of the yummy greens that I love.
Have a green Wednesday!

idea's & recycling

I have days where I get one idea after another and I have books of ideas...and well, here I have started another one.

It was a good day for idea's.
And to recycle another Cheerio box.

Every couple of weeks when the cereal gets low...I make new patterns.
....From my idea's.

These are patterns for a couple new quilt idea's and some dolls.
Once the wheels start turning...I can't cut them out fast enough..
...and then I run out of cereal box.

Posting late today....hope it was a good one for you.
Time for American Idol.

a little trip

Thought I would share a bit of my trip back home with you today.

This picture was taken behind the State house in Annapolis. I think the Maryland flag is one of the prettiest state flags. It is the coat of arms of the Calvert and Crossland families and it's the only flag in the US to be based on English heraldry.

...of course I ate a few crabs.

I checked out this cute little beach cottage as a possible retirement house.

I ate some healthy food.

...and some not so healthy.

We ate dinner at this Baltimore diner where Guy taped one of his episodes of Diners, Drive in's and Dives. We love that show.

...and most importantly...
my Grandson and I were able to sew together.
This time was different....
...we didn't have access to a motorized machine.
So I taught him how to hand sew.
He did great!
Every morning before school we would put in some stitching time and then again after school.

It was a great trip!

Have a great Monday!

a new bag

Let's hear it for the Atlanta Braves!
(I, myself am a Baltimore Oriole's fan)
But my daughter loves the Braves! as does her father.

...so she gets this special tote for her Birthday.

...she loved it.

Baseballs thru & thru.

And I was able to go back and give it to her in person.

I am glad it's now baseball season...a sure sign of Spring and Summer.

Artful wishes!

random friday

I am back from my trip back East to Maryland.
It was an unexpected...spur of the moment trip.
I tried making several posts while I was gone....

...didn't want it to appear that I was not at home for security reasons.

I took lots of photo's but used my cell phone...not my camera.
Now I need to remember how to download them to my computer.

Bear with me....

...I was exposed to several family members with illnesses...
...and now I am feeling a bit out of sorts.

But I do have this pic of one of my favorite tree's.
It's in the middle of the highway and I love how the branches shoot straight up.
I have been fascinated with this tree since high school.

Some things never change.

Have an ArTfuL weekend!

more fabric fun

...some new fabrics to show...
I always seem to collect greens.
These are fresh out of the dryer.

I'm on the new computer and finally figuring out the whole downloading process.
Bear with me....more new stuff to follow.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

random friday

Do you have a lucky number?

...mine is 4.

I don't know why.

Maybe because it was my father's lucky number.

I find that I favor even numbers.

I always take or use things in even numbers.

Is this a weird thing?

I wish 4 you to have a great weekend!

spring forward

Can Spring be far away?

I am so ready for it!

It's my favorite season.

Have a Springy day!

sweet surprise

I went to get the mail and the only thing in the box was the new issue of Art Quilting Studio.

I knew that it meant that I must be published in it because I don't yet have a subscription to this fun magazine.

Yep, I responded to the call for "What's in your car?"

It's an excellent issue.

Lot's of good ideas!

YAY!

Have an artful Thursday!

new quilt

... pretty quilt confetti!

Whilst still working on my first two quilt projects, I felt the need to start another. I have always wanted to make a string or strip quilt and after reading the article in Art Quilt Studio magazine by Rayna Gillman, I couldn't wait any longer.

I already had the right colors of fabric out so I started ripping strips. I have it all planned in my head. The article by Rayna is called Cinderella quilts and she invented a block called the urban storefront. I love that and since I do things in even numbers...I will probably start that one too.

I never work on one project at a time....I never have.

It's an art thing.

I know I am not alone on that one.
