HaPpY HaLLoWeen!

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Halloween.
Rose the Diva paper doll decided to dress up today.

It is still Breast Cancer Awareness month for one more day so don't forget to schedule your mam-o-cram. I really dread this but it's just something you HAVE to do. I'm good until May.

Happy weekend!

I'm late posting today...bowled this morning. Bowled pretty good and won a few dollars...got some exercise. Now it's back to work on those bagz. More heart tests tomorrow...and fasting...fun.

awesome!!

Saturday night we went to see Carousel at Rose State College. It was in concert format not an actual play. They didn't advertise it as this but in the back of my mind I had a feeling. Well...it blew us away! I just can not explain how fabulous it was.
We sat in the second row and Shirley Jones sang just a few feet right in front of us. It was cool because you could hear them singing without the use of amplification.
Shirley is 74 years old and still going strong.

curtain call
Shirley in the middle with her son Patrick to the right of her and Miss America 2007, Lauren Nelson to her left. Lauren also did an awesome job of both acting and singing. DH said he had never been that close to a Miss America before.
This was the best picture I could take with being so close.
Have a great week!

a new treasure

I discovered a new treasure this week. It's the artwork of Sandy Mastroni. I had her on my favorites on my computer but not my blog. I was cleaning out old sites when I ran across her blog again and checked in on her to see what she was up to. I just love her art work and wanted to share with you.

I added her to my favorites and you can click on the pouty girl photo on my side bar to go to her blog.
OK, I know I need to update on the cardiologist appointment. My EKG was fine but now I have to have a slew of other tests done in the following weeks and won't get results until my follow up on the 20th of November.

another Sandy work of art
Don't forget to have an artful weekend!

too late

OH GEEZ!! Here it is 10:36 PM Thursday night. I forgot to blog today. I left early this morning to go to the Quilt Guild meeting then I went shopping and got home just in time to cook dinner (after picking up a roasted chicken at Walmart) Then it was time for Greys Anatomy and poof! the day is over. I can't show any quilt photos because I forgot my camera.
As my Mom always used to say....tomorrow is another day.

Tomorrow I go to the cardiologist for the first time. Just having some chest pains so we will see what thats all about. Have to get up early...so I must go now. Thanks for stopping by.

stormy wednesday

It's a cold, rainy and windy day here in Oklahoma. I enjoy these days. I had a hair appointment across town but cancelled it. It's a better sewing day. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

So I finished up the halloween cards for the Grand kids.
I made a new skull stamp for these cards. Now I am in the mode to make stamps but have far too much other stuff to get done. Bagz first....then I can play.
I hope you can find some time to play too. Have a good Wednesday!

tagged again

I have been tagged again....by several people. So here is what I am going to do. I am breaking some rules here but it's what I do. If you are reading this consider yourself tagged (if you care to be) Since it's October and pretty near Halloween, I am going to do a Halloween themed tag. So here goes.

Seven random facts about moi.

1. I love black cats. And currently have two of them.

2. I am terrified of spiders! The bigger and blacker...the scarier! I was bitten by a brown reclose when I was around 11 years old...still have a hole where the bite was.

3. I love the show Ghost Hunters. Jason and Grant crack me up.

4. The first halloween I can remember was first grade and I was Cinderella. My Mom made my costume.

5. I love scary movies. I like the suspenceful kind not the slasher kind.

6. If I eat too much candy corn I get dizzy.

7. I believe that I had a spirit in my last house in Maryland. It was a woman and she sat on my bed. And she brushed my hair back from my face. One day I was making a quilt and had four blocks laid out on the table. I left the room to answer the phone and when I came back there were only three blocks there. I was home alone and looked everywhere for the missing block. Thinking maybe it had stuck to me while I went down the hall and fell off in another room. Nope! And we packed and moved since then and it was never found. I had to make another block to replace it.

thanks!

I would like to thank everyone for their Anniversary wishes.

Saturday I attended a Sweet 16 tea party. It was great fun. Everyone was dressed to the nines. I forgot to wear my big hat.
We ate chicken salad sandwiches with potato soup served in antique tea cups. Raspberry parfaits followed and of course birthday CAKE!

.... a cool garage sale find....

...and a new book to my list.

Our quilt guild is having a self portrait challenge. Your portrait and what inspires you. Then they will be displayed at our next quilt show. I have an idea what I intend to make but that could change.

This bool looks interesting tho.

the day after....

Last nights anniversary celebration was perfect.
The restuarant was romantic, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We ate that chocolate banner.

And we changed a bit over the years.

We strolled the downtown area.

It's so nice in Bricktown.

I love this mural.

Hope you are having a good weekend.

twenty seven!

On a happier note....besides being Friday....it's our 27th wedding anniversary. Wow! Where does the time go?

We were married at Abbotts Mill in Houston Delaware. It was where we went on our first date. I wore a Laura Ashley dress and the rest was really simple. Just family (and our families are small ) and a handful of friends. I made the bouquets myself and Bill and I made our cake together. Then we headed off to Mystic, Connecticut for our honeymoon. Short and sweet!
Sorry about the poor quality picture.

Tonight we are trying Mickey Mantles Steakhouse for dinner. I hear the steaks are to die for.

Crusade No. 24

I am back with another one of Michelle Wards GPP Crusades. This one is about your final wishes. I knew I would be participating in this one because I believe in preparing for....well, you know....it's going to happen. It's just a matter of when and no one knows when.

In my family we tend to go pretty quickly. We have kidney disease and with weakened immune systems the weirdest strain of bacteria can take us out....in a heart beat.
So, I have recorded my funeral music. No one wants to talk about it. Not even my husband. But I insist because it's what I want.

My music is great. Have you ever heard Daniel Rodriguez sing Amazing Grace? It's the best and it's on there. The Prayer by Charlotte Church, Time to Say Goodbye by Sarah Brightman and of course Seasons of Love from RENT.
My daughter, Holly said not to put Ave Maria on this disc because it makes her cry. Well, I thought isn't she going to be crying anyway? But I honored her wishes and deleted it, but I have another Ave Maria...yes there's more than one. This one is by Paul Schwartz and is hauntingly beautiful. I did have a funky version by the Opera Babes.
Topping it off with some music from John Rutters Requiem including the singing of the 23rd Psalm.
Yes, you could say I have given some thought to my final wishes. I have the photo picked out should I have a closed casket. The casket decision is up to the family.

As for flowers...I stand with my Mom on this one. She always said she wanted flowers when she was living....not when she dies. Check! Just throw in a few pink roses.
Ashes? I told my husband to turn the ashes into a diamond and make it into a ring. I don't think he would do this for himself. He is not a jewelry guy. But should he go first that is what I intend to do with his ashes and then I can keep him with me forever.

Of course before any of this takes place, my organs will be donated if they can be. And everyone knows this!
One thing that Michelles crusade made me think of that I hadn't before was leaving behind some letters and cards. Maybe cards for my Grandsons' graduations with their savings bonds. Little things like that.

I believe that you really should let your family know in advance what your final wishes are. Maybe if you can't talk to them, then write it all down and put it in a safe place.
Remember....Life is uncertain....eat dessert first!!

And remember that you can live on in someone else by organ and tissue donation. Think green and recycle yourself.

r u a winner?

Just a reminder.
Prizes will be announced.....
.....tonight at 6!!
Excited? Me too!
Good Luck!
Thank You Monica!!

last chance

Just a quick reminder....you have until midnight tonight to make your donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation over at Monicas for your chance to win our Love Squared doll and many other prizes. You can't go wrong on this one. Even my man Tim Holtz has a prize to offer.
Just go to the button on the top of my sidebar and you are there. GOOD LUCK!!

Well on that note I am off to the doctors today for my six month checkup for my kidney. I am dreading it because I didn't lose the weight that he wanted me to. Oh well, maybe he will forget....not! This is my weight loss time because it is getting cooler....so my next visit I will be back down.

weekend update

We went to the theater this past weekend to see the Pajama Game. We sat ten rows back and it was excellent. Next on the play list is two weeks from now and one of my favorite Rodgers & Hammerstein productions....Carousel. And it is staring Shirley Jones and her son Patrick Cassidy. I love Shirley Jones and I think this was her very first play or movie. I think she was 17. Or maybe it was Oklahoma...not sure.

Out to lunch today with the bowling girls then back to the studio for some work.

pink monday

Just a reminder that it is breast cancer awareness month....so you know what to do.

On that note, Cookie Sunshine is having a give away in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She is giving away one of her signed "Princess Pink" prints (matted and framed) so check it out.

I hope everyone had or is still having a great weekend. I am on my way out to go to Michaels to use that 50% off coupon...woohoo!

So have a great day and don't forget the crayons!

sketch art

Here is the painted collage I made after accepting Sharons challenge last friday. She said to take an old sketch and finish it. I wish I had taken a before photo because she doesn't look anything like she did on the previous start. She had big bangs and pink hair. So she traded the hair for a hat....somedays I feel like doing that. I know her head is not in proportion with the rest of her body but we have BIG heads in our family. (That is why I can't hide bad hair with a hat....I can't find a cute one to fit this head.)

I cut her out and collaged her onto a canvas that I covered with ripped and inked pages from the books I found at the flea market last weekend. Added a few stamped images here and there.

To finish it all off I added beeswax and a flower on her hat. I like her and think her name should be Bella. Now I think I will pop over to Sharons and see if she and Norah have anything cooked up for this weekend.

Have a fun extended weekend!!

finally....

Yes! We are finally getting some cooler weather here in Oklahoma. Yesterday, the kitties and I hung out in the sitting room and enjoyed the nice breezes. The windows have not been opened since last Spring.

Another birthday bag.

...with lots of purplely goodness inside....

....topped off with a purple butterfly.
More orders in today. I am off to work now. Have a great Thursday! Three day weekend coming up.

busy...bagz

More bag orders this week. This one is red and black with pink flowers by request. I really love this one.

Both of the monograms are on huge pockets.

Today is stay-at-home-and-work-all-day-but-don't-have-to-cook-day. I wasn't on the roster to bowl this week but DH was. So I get to work longer in the studio and forget about cooking dinner. That cooking dinner thing cramps my style/day.
I took Sharon's challenge last weekend and I am making a painting from an old sketch. It should be ready by Friday to show.
a peek at tomorrows bag...some crazy stitching on that cell phone pocket

a day late

I am a day late here. Had labs to do yesterday. Fasting and all that and I ended up just running around all day. I just got home in time to whip up dinner and that was my day in a nutshell.

Some of you asked if I found any treasures at the Vintage flea market on Saturday. Books! Old books, school books, music books and books with French and German print. Great ephemera!

I found quite a few of this ladys books.
She had some shorthand books with the squiggly writing.

a very old book from the U.S. Army

But what did I really fall in love with?

THIS!!!

Isn't it a great old rusty pedal car?! It spoke to me. I love old pedal cars. I thought ...what a great planter this would be...on the front porch. DH looked at me with that look. I don't know...the look like I had two heads or something. But it's OK. At $325.00 it was NO bargain and I walked on.....

Have a good Tuesday. I have to go take the Mustang for an oil change and other fun stuff....not!
