cupcake anyone?

Peekin' in on day 12.........my stuff. Remember those recipe boxes?

Let's talk about CAKE! I love cake and I really love those little portable cakes known as cupcakes. I found these cupcake containers for the lunch box at Williams Sonoma at the mall.

DH loved it. He said that's why he never took them in his lunch, because it was too messy. Not any more! I just thought I would share this discovery with you.

And while we are on the subject of cake. Have you seen the tv show, Ace of Cakes on the Food network? It's great! It is filmed at Charm City Cakes in my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland.

They make some of the most amazing cakes you will ever see. And Duff's laugh will crack you up.

suitcase art

Peek 11....... Yarn in a basket.

Now about that suitcase. This is the top side and I colleged it with tissue and napkins (that's how the cards got started). Oh, and a couple floral stamps.

On the back side I had the two ferns stamped then added napkin roses. I stamped the sides with large flowers and sealed it with a satin varnish. Now it is ready to pack up for my class.
Tomorrow.....some cupcake lovin'

card art

Last night I was doing various art things while trying to tidy up the place and somehow I started to decoupage this deck of playing cards. I used printed tissue paper and napkins so it would be transparent and the numbers would show thru.
Sneak peek number 10. The bear jar with the buttons is very old. I would have to say it goes back to the 50's. I think it used to be my sister's. The top to it is lost but I think it had a slot in it to be used for a bank. I'm sure it came with cinnamon or something in it or maybe not.

Remember this suitcase from last summer? It was purchased from a local thrift shop and was a dirty white color. I put a coat of tannish brown (that's a color right?) And started to stamp it. Well, wait until you see what it looks like TOMORROW!

queen of the studio

This is my Madame Alexandria doll. I don't remember how old I was when I got her, but it's been at least 4 decades ago. Her elbows and knee's bend and she is wearing nylon stockings with seams. My Mom made this gown and I added the crown and boa. She sits atop a bookcase and overlooks the place kind of like a guardian angel.

a little ad

On Wednesday I started to dye these strings and threads. I used inks to dye them and it gave them a strong texture. Then.......
I used them to make a little advertisement for my upcoming class at the Paper Crown. I used one of those little notebooks you get at the dollar store for the base. Then I tied on a bunch of stamped tags. This is the front, and......

this is the back. On the top I tied on some yarns and a bit of dyed cheesecloth. Now on to the studio pic for the day.

This is the lighted garland that hangs over my sewing machine and provides quite a bit of extra light. The little doll is made of silk and I just colored her pink using a dye pen.
Have an artful weekend and I will be back tomorrow with another picture.

two more weeks........

Two more weeks until Spring!!
OK, back to the studio. Here is my wall of thread....well actually a portion of it. These are mostly my embroidery threads. The neat part is that I got this thread holder for $3.00 at the thrift store.
I am working on a little art project and will show that on tomorrow's blog page.
