travel journal
DH needed a travel journal for work so I made him this one. And of course it has my favorite 56 Chevy on the front. The inside has a picture of moi so he doesn't forget me.....ha!It's Wednesday and storming here. The only thing I have painted in the last two days is the fence in the back yard. BORING! I know but has to be done and the weather was perfect until it started to thunder.
It's also good weather for sewing, so I will head to the studio after lunch for that. It's humid and I couldn't stand it any longer...had to turn the AC on.

returning birds
Our birds are back. Last year they built a nest of clay on our front porch and DH was going to remove the nest after they left, but I said maybe they would return.....and they did.Monday, April 21, 2008

chicken out!
chicken....... it's what's for dinner.
I read a quote somewhere that said "Food is art you can eat" OK, I'll go for that one.
A busy weekend here. Starting the old spring cleaning. I have been weeding out stuff I need to get rid of and planning a yard sale sometime in the future. Someone in my neighborhood was having a sale and put signs up, so I gathered my stuff and put it out and sold most of it and yay! it's done.
Now I need to wash some windows and maybe finish painting the fence (from last year) I know, it's art studio Sunday, I will try to work in some art (I am in sewing mode) if I have some energy left.

recycle
Before you throw out your junk mail and catalogs, give them another look with your art eye. I do this with catalogs. Clothing and quilting catalogs are the best. I also use colorful envelopes.
Pick out the colorful and fun prints that you like. Cut them into one inch strips and put thru the Xyron sticker maker ( make them just long enough to wrap around the straw) Don't worry about the patterns of the pictures. Use the permanent cartridge in the Xyron. Cut the strip on a diagonal when you remove it from the Xyron. Take a drinking straw and wrap the printed paper around it, putting the straight side on first. Then using scissor's cut the printed part off.I put this piece on the end of a wooden dowel. Then roll it onto an embossing pad and sprinkle clear UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) on it and use the heat gun to melt it. Then dip each end into gold embossing powder and now you have a neat bead to embellish with.

tag skirt
I have been busy making tags for my upcoming class and you may ask what do we do with all the fun tags we make? Besides putting them in and on art mail, making cards, labeling things, the ideas are endless. Anyway to show them off I made a skirt with them on this wire mannequin form.
Later this week I will show a neat trick. What to do with your catalogs and junque mail, besides throw them away. I will use the color photo's, ect. to make pretty art things.Tomorrow....is mail art day and I can't wait to show what I recieved on Saturday. And I will show what is leaving here via the mail.

rag bagz
This bag was made for a friend who gifted me with a TRUNKLOAD of jeans to recycle!
This is the back. Her favorite colors are lime green with black, so I lined it with two of the green prints from the top photo. It's from the new ZA ZA line from Moda. I hope she loves it.
Now I am working on a special order bag for a little girls Birthday.

a little birdie
A little bird told me yesterday to skip the art and work in the yard. And I had to because the weather was right (a the yard was in despare). The temps were good...I can't take the heat. And in my mind in early spring there shouldn't be a lot of heat. And I can't be in the sun either, sooo....DH is home battening down the hatches for tonight's big storm. They are predicting baseball size hail. That's just wrong!
Tomorrow will be some art....I promise.

class sample
Just showing my class sample for my upcoming creative stamping class. It's a tag-in-a-tag. You make a pocket on the larger tag and I will be demonstrating the fabulous tool....the Cropodile. Then you make a smaller tag and insert it into the pocket of the larger tag. I will be using tags to show how to get all the different effects using distress and other types of inks, distressing and embossing, ect. Then we will making tags of the students choices. There will be chocolate and prizes! A lot of fun.Saturday, April 5, 2008

fabric flower friday
Here I am showing some of my florals for my jean rag bagz. They are so much fun to make.
I made rows of cut out flowers on green fabric's. Free motion stitched them to batting for texture. Then sewed them in rows on the bag. Like rows in a flower garden. Then added some random strips of denim for some added interest. This would make a nice bag for a gardener for Mother's day.And as always......have an artful weekend!

violets
My violets are in bloom. I just love them and the way they spread. One day back in Maryland I wished for violets. I can never find them for sale and I really wanted some and by some miracle they started growing in my yard. So I brought some with me to Oklahoma. They are just so sweet with their heart shaped leaves.Tuesday, April 1, 2008
sunset art
The calm after the storm. Another beautiful Oklahoma sunset. We have two nice days before the storms are expected to be back. I am headed up to the studio to work on something. I don't know what yet, I'll see what grabs me.
